HCM software of all flavors and colors is going international.
Companies that made their debut in North America are rapidly gaining market
share through expansion across the globe, whether through selling to multinationals
with headquarters in North America or directly to companies located elsewhere
in the world.
As one example, Cornerstone OnDemand, the talent management suite
provider, now gleans 30% of its revenue from international business, chiefly in
EMEA. The suite is used in 190 countries
today, according to the company.
Fully 12 % of HR/Talent provider SilkRoad’s
revenue last year came from Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa
with 9 % from that solely from its Asia Pacific operations. SilkRoad, which refers to its
portfolio as social
talent management software, is expanding its customer base in Japan,
China, and New Zealand. Last year,
SilkRoad China was named the “Most Promising HR Service Provider of the Year”
by China Staff Awards – as such it is the only talent management provider that
has been so recognized in the China market.
Talent management is not the
only area catching the eye of the global market. Workforce management solutions are also
spreading, sometimes like wildfires. Kronos, a pioneer supplier of workforce management solutions, reports 25 percent of
worldwide market share outside of North America. With that, Kronos grew twice
as fast as the worldwide workforce management market, having reported a 10 percent increase in revenues in Fiscal 2013,
versus IHS’s 5.2-percent forecasted growth for the market. (World Market for
Workforce Management Solutions – Interim Report – 2013 Edition, IHS Inc.,
October 11, 2013.) Kronos has both multinational
customers and locally owned, region-specific organizations.
Sumtotal, which provides enterprise
HR and talent management as well as workforce management for hourly workers,
gleaned 32% of last year’s revenue outside of North America. Its products are deployed in 160 countries and 29
languages, with the majority of international sales in EMEA.
Lumesse, a provider of integrated talent management solutions with
long-time roots in Europe gets 88% of its revenues from EMEA, with 6% in Asia
Pacific and 6% in North America.
Its North America growth is on the rise as the company recently reported that
North American-derived revenue was 43% higher than for the same period in 2012.
management software is not just a growing market, it is a spreading market as increasingly providers—such as these few
examples and many more – expand their horizons to remote shores. From a local
base, no matter local to which continent, HCM solutions providers are
delivering talent and workforce management across the globe.
