Bersin & Associates Introduces Second-Generation Web Platform for the Enterprise Learning and Talent Management Research Library

New web platform with enhanced functionality designed to expedite access to more than 13,000 pages of research, case studies, benchmarking data, and best practices

Oakland, CA – June 12, 2008 -- Bersin & Associates, the only research and advisory firm solely focused on What Works® in enterprise learning and talent management, today announced the unveiling of its new, second-generation web platform for supporting and accessing the company’s Enterprise Learning and Talent Management Research Library, the largest collection of research findings, case studies, bulletins, frameworks, benchmarking data, and other information relevant to corporate learning and talent management. The web site’s address is www.bersin.com.

All visitors to the site now have access to a large collection of publicly available resources, including the company’s widely-read newsletters, audio overviews, frameworks, sample research documents, news articles, and the company’s new blog, The Business of Talent®. RSS feeds alert subscribers to new blog entries and new library additions.

The new web platform also offers Bersin & Associate research members significant other benefits. In addition to keyword searches, research members can search for specific types of research (for instance, case studies or research bulletins), for research on specific topics, by research author, or by industry segment. Members can also quickly locate research that solves particular problems-- such as product selections, system and process implementations, benchmarking, strategic planning, and budgeting. Research is also categorized by experience level.

All search results are ranked by relevance, date, and number of hits. These features enable research members, who have unlimited access to all research, to quickly access the research that meets their specific needs, such as finding:

  • All research related to a specific learning or talent management vendor.
  • Research relevant to developing an enterprise learning budget, or business plan.
  • Discussions on how to best organize an enterprise steering committee or council, including case studies, models, and organization charts.
  • Facts and statistics related to the talent management spending by industry, organization size, or program area.
  • A best-practice organizational model, with roles and responsibilities, for learning or talent management metrics.
  • Research, guidance, cost analyses, case studies, and best practices on the implementation of a learning management system or talent management suite.

The new web platform also supports an expansion of Bersin & Associates’ Ask the Experts service. Research members can browse and search previously answered questions, post new questions for analysts, and rate the answers in terms of usefulness. Analysts respond to new questions within 24 to 48 hours.

“We have invested more than two years in the development of this web platform,” said Josh Bersin. “Our goal was to build a technology infrastructure that could support our continually expanding research library and further increase its value to members. I want to thank all of our members who contributed suggestions and who participated in our beta testing. This new platform makes our research library an indispensible, immediately accessible tool for all learning and talent organizations.”

The Enterprise Learning and Talent Management Research Library

During the last two years, the company’s Enterprise Learning and Talent Management Research Library has expanded considerably and now contains research based on studies of thousands of organizations of all sizes and industry segments. Research members now have at their fingertips:

  • More than 13,000 pages of timely, in-depth research in the following areas: organization and governance, learning programs, content development, learning measurement, LMSs, learning on-demand, workforce planning, performance management, leadership development, succession planning, competency management, sourcing and recruiting, and HR technologies.
  • In-depth industry studies on topics such as talent management suites, high-impact learning organizations, and leadership development; case studies discussing a wide range of best practices from organizations such as Caterpillar, IBM, Aetna, and Rogers Communications; research bulletins covering major market announcements, such as the recent acquisition of Vurv by Taleo and SumTotal’s recent 8.0 release.
  • Illustrative models, a new category of research which includes organization charts from best-practices companies, documented business processes, measurement dashboards, and flow charts.
  • Presentations and recorded webinars by Bersin & Associates analysts.
  • The library’s research also provides a foundation for three new scorecards which members can use to assess their learning organizations, their talent management organizations, or their leadership development strategies. The resulting assessments are based on analysis of more than a million data elements collected over five years of research and highlight areas of strength, weaknesses, and potential for increased business value.

“Our research library is unlike any other,” said Chris Howard, vice president of research for Bersin & Associates. “Its breadth and depth are unparalleled, and the new web platform brings even greater value to our research resources.”
