Relationship of Talent Management to Enduring Business Success Highlighted in IMPACT 2008 Keynote

More Than 300 Senior HR and Learning Leaders Gather to Discuss Business Impact of Talent Management and Critical Talent Challenges
Oakland, CA – April 8, 2008 – IMPACT 2008: The Business of Talent™, the first research conference on corporate learning and talent management, will open with a keynote discussing the relationship of talent management to long-term enduring business success. Josh Bersin, president of Bersin & Associates, will open the conference on Wednesday, April 23, with the keynote address “Here Today and Here Tomorrow: Lessons from Enduring Organizations.” The speech will discuss the five keys to enduring business success and how HR and corporate training professionals play a pivotal role in the equation.

The sold-out conference will cover the latest research findings, issues, trends, and best practices related to all areas of corporate talent management. More than 50 executive presenters -- including senior representatives from Caterpillar, Aramark, Northrop Grumman, Textron, MetLife, and CA -- will lead the agenda’s 21 sessions. The conference will take place at The Vinoy Renaissance Resort in St. Petersburg, FL, on April 22-24. More than 300 HR and learning executives from all industry segments will attend.

“The goal of this conference is to give participants new insights into specific ways that enterprise learning and talent management drives business value – now and tomorrow. Given the current business climate, this mission is more important than ever. Decisions we make today will have long-lasting and far-reaching impact,” said Bersin.

Recent research conducted by Bersin & Associates reveals significant opportunity for improvement in talent strategies. For instance, while 60% of organizations report gaps in their leadership pipelines, 50% of respondents do not have structured leadership development programs in place. More than half of companies surveyed are embarking on major talent management initiatives, yet 78% have no named executive in charge of talent management activities across the enterprise.

“Having a well-defined talent management strategy is part of building a winning business strategy,” said Bersin. “Enduring organizations, those that prosper through good and bad economies and major market changes, share an important commonality – they develop long-lasting and powerful talent strategies .”

Bersin & Associates analysts will present highlights from a range of recent research projects, including the soon-to-be-released Corporate Talent Management Factbook, conducted in partnership with HR Executive magazine, and The Training Measurement Book, which encourages a business-based approach to measuring training effectiveness.

The conference ends with the keynote “The Performance Culture of Enduring Corporations,”delivered by Jason Young, author of Culturetopia. Young, a former executive with Southwest Airlines and president of LeadSmart, will discuss how talent leaders can become change agents for creating organizational cultures where employees can do their best work and that produce the major improvements in productivity, profitability, and employee retention and customer satisfaction.
